Unilateral tongue and mandible Pain.

Postby Jbeas » Tue Sep 20, 2011 7:58 pm

Currently seeing a patient who's main complaint is that of Right tongue pain and along the gumline of the mandible. She is also being seen for cervical/ neck pain as well. Now I slightly remember treating a patient with this with some success on the reduction of tongue symptoms. I need some suggestions as to which cervical segments can influence the Facial or Trigeminal nerves. Or is this specific to TMJ? Also the patient states that she can reduce her symptoms by chewing gum....

The C1-C3 complex has a direct neurological link with the trigeminus nerve. I would look there first from a biomechnical perspective. typical forward head posture. Not sure if TMJ could result in neurogenic senitivity inside the mouth..
